Juveniles Win Big in Lucknow!
Submitted By lcampbell on Sunday, December 9, 2007
The Seaforth Stars Juvenile team won big this weekend in Lucknow, the team playing in the "B" Divison won all four of their games to advance to the International Silver Stick Tournament to be held in Mooretown this coming January.

The tournament play began on Friday for the team playing with Seaforth winning 3-1 on goals from Mike Curtis (2) and Tymen Deweerd. Our game 2 was against Listowel on Saturday morning and Seaforth emerged victorious in a 2-1 game with goals  from Darcey Cook and Mike Curtis.  Darcey's goal was assisted by # 25 Lorenz Gutensperger, while Curtis's was assisted by Matt Fisher. Game 3 came later on Saturday with Seaforth facing South Huron. This game was a much more physical game and we found ourselves battling much harder. But still only had 3 penalties all game. while South Huron had six plus a match penalty for an intent to injure. By the end of the first period Seaforth had the only goal which had come at 1:04 unassisted from Tyler VanDrunen. Second period play began with goal coming from Lorenz Gutensperger assisted by Matt Cartwright another unassisted goal this one from Tymen Deweerd and to close out the second one from Darcey Cook assisted by Matt Cartwright. finishing out the second with a 4-1 lead.  With nothing left to lose South Huron turned up the level of aggressiveness in the third however Seaforth held strong with Tyler Vandehogen scoring on a pass from Lorenz Gutensperger to finish up the game 5-1 and advance to the finals.
With the level of excitement in the dressing room at an all time high this afternoon there was little doubt the boys would settle for anything less then the victory the had fought hard for in the previous games.  We had suffered a number of injuries at the hands ( and sticks) of the previous team and found we even had a player who would not be physically able to join us on the bench due to injury however we had made it this far and the boys had come to play!
New Hamburg scored first at the six minute mark of the first period and both teams had been playing fairly well though Seaforth had yet to play to the best of their ability. At 11:17 point of the second period Lorenz Gutensperger fired a shot pasted the New Hamburg goalie netting our first goal of the game on passes from Kenie Currie and Matt Cartwright. Shortly after New Hamburg fired their second goal of the game past our "tender"  Josh "Skinny" Nurse to get their second of the game. ( FUN FACT - New Hamburg was the only team of four that we played to score more then one goal on our Skinny.)  We hit the dressing room for the flood and a chance to regroup, knowing they had to come back out with everything in order to bring home the win, the boys regained their focus and took back to the ice for the third period.  From the second the team took to the ice in the 3rd they dominated the ice. The did what they had come to do! With 9:38 remaining in the 3rd period Tyler VanDrunen scored on a pass from Mike Curtis to tie the game giving us back the full momentum we needed to completely dominate the ice. At 7:37 Adam Wise rifled a shot past the New Hamburg netminder giving us the go-ahead goal. After that it was all Seaforth, the team maintained the control of the puck, the ice, their sticks and themselves to finish out the rest of the game to win 3-2.  We now advance to the International Silver Stick in Mooretown with our first game to be played Thursday January 3rd at 8 pm.  The team would like to thank our families who have supported us in the stands, the fans who made the drive up to Lucknow to cheer us on the Seaforth Fire Department for the great ride on the Fire Truck to celebrate our win and the Atom Rep team who played their own great Silver Stick Tournament and stood outside to cheer us as we rode by on the fire truck, way to go guys congrats on your tourney too!
