Seaforth Minor Hockey Rowan's Law Legislation - ACTION REQUIRED BY ALL SMH PARTICIPANTS IMMEDIATELY

This is an URGENT update regarding the legislative requirements under the implementation of Rowan’s Law by the Government of Ontario.

What is Rowan’s Law?

Rowan Stringer was a 17-year old Ottawa varsity rugby player who died from sustaining multiple concussions resulting in a catastrophic swelling of the brain – second impact syndrome.

On March 7, 2018, Ontario passed Rowan's Law (Concussion Safety), 2018 and related amendments to the Education Act. However, it is important to understand that this applies to all Sport Organizations, schools, programs and businesses in the province. This is not a hockey ‘thing’ – it is legislation (Ontario Regulation 161/19) from the Government of Ontario.

All players and team officials are required to complete the review of the information and acknowledge having done so prior to the beginning of the Hockey Season.

Please click on the following link below to find the form or through the 'Rowan's Law Acknowledgment' tab located under Health and Safety.

Rowan's Law Acknowledgement Form

If you are currently registered for SMH, please complete this form by September 2nd 2019. If you are a team official, please complete the form as soon as possible after your appointment and prior to participating with any team events.

PLEASE NOTE THAT NO PLAYER OR TEAM OFFICIAL WILL BE APPROVED ON ANY OMHA OR OWHA ROSTER WITHOUT COMPLETING THIS ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FORM.
