Midget Reps Remain Unbeaten
Submitted By jtaylor on Wednesday, November 7, 2012
Seaforth Midget Reps extended their regular season winning streak to 5 games Tuesday night as they beat the Drayton Defenders 2-1.

This game we call hockey can be a funny thing as the Midget Rep team found out on Tuesday night. After scoring 13 goals in a dominating fashion last Friday, the locals played an equally dominating game Tuesday night but ended up scoring just 2 goals. That was enough though to beat a very tough and determined Drayton team. Defenders goalie Adam Kalbfleish was stellar early on as Seaforth dominated the play, hemming in the opposition time and time again. The game would be tied at donuts  after the first period as Seaforth peppered Drayton's goalie with countless scoring chances.

The second period was more of the same as Seaforth continued applying pressure only to have shots go off skates, sticks or other body parts including the Defenders' goalie. However, it would be Drayton who would open the scoring on the power play. The Defenders forward floated a wrist shot past a screened Jared Anstett and in off the post with 10 seconds to go in the second period that could have broken the Midget Reps' spirits. Assistant coach Ryan however would not let that happen though as he reminded the kids to keep playing the disciplined style of game they have been playing and everything will work out. This seemed to settle things down and the Midgets went back out to keep the streak alive.

The pep talk worked and the boys continued to work hard which finally paid off at the 8:18 mark of the third. After some hard work in the corner by Will Marcy, Mark Robinson got the puck to the ever elusive Logan Lammerant who, instead of shooting, passed the puck behind him to Tyler Edginton who slid the puck in the wide open cage to tie the score. Just over a minute later, the line of Robert Campbell, Owen Taylor and converted defenseman Scott Malone crashed and banged their way to the net and Campbell also slid the puck into the yawning cage to give the locals the lead. Not to be overshadowed by the Defenders' goalie, Seaforth's Anstett was every bit as good. He maybe was not as busy but faced many quality scoring chances only to shut the door and give his team a chance (including a save on a clear breakaway in the second period when the game was still scoreless). Seaforth played the last minute short-handed and Drayton pulled their goalie but could not get the equalizer as Seaforth held the Defenders at bay, including a gutsy shock block by Tyler Morey.

Fans looking to fill the void left by the NHL lockout should come to the Seaforth Arena this Friday night as the locals host a very tough Teeswater team. Game time is 7:30pm. Seaforth plays Teeswater 3 times in the next ten days including the Wingham Silver Stick tournament.
