10th Anniversary for Tournament & Still Focusing on Fun
Submitted By Craig Metzger on Sunday, September 09, 2018
Planning is underway and registrations are now being accepted for what has become a popular fun-focused hockey tournament for PeeWee Local League players - the Doug Perkes Memorial.

First a bit of history and background...

The tournament was established in 2010 in memory of Doug Perkes, who passed away in June of 2009. Doug was an avid sports person who felt the best way to stop good kids from making bad choices was to involve them in team sports. In his memory, a fund was established to financially aid local youths who otherwise would not be able to play hockey and other minor sports and the fund has provided financial assistance to young players each year since its establishment. The proceeds from this annual hockey tournament augment this fund, continuing the assistance to young players in need.

Now in its 10th year, the tournament itself has grown from an initial 6 team format over a day and half in 2010 to where it's now a 16 team, two and half day tournament. Although the tournament has expanded, its goal of focusing on providing a fun and an enjoyable experience for all the participating teams has continued.

The 2019 version of the tournament will be held from Friday, February 8th to Sunday, February 10th. Teams interested in participating are encouraged to complete the Registration Application Form available on the tournament website as soon as possible and then send in a cheque for the $750 tournament fee.

See ya in February!
