"C" Championship: Wolves vs Ice Dogs
Submitted By Craig Metzger on Sunday, February 9, 2020
The "C" Final saw the Shelburne Wolves and BCH Ice Dogs square off.

The Ice Dogs took the first penalty of the game (hooking) about three minutes into the first period. After successfully killing off the penalty, the Ice Dogs opened the scoring just past the midway mark with the only goal of the period.

The second parade saw several penalties by both teams. The Ice Dogs took a slashing penalty early in the period and then, just as the penalty ended, the Wolves took their first penalty (cross checking). The Ice Dogs power play "clicked", netting them their second goal of the game. The Ice Dogs then quickly scored another goal just 8 seconds later to establish a 3-0 lead. The Wolves called a timeout to regroup and it seemed to work as even though they took the next two penalties they were able to kill them off. The Ice Dogs took a body contact penalty with 3:30 to go but successfully killed it off. The Wolves kept pressing however and were rewarded with their first goal of the game with 26 seconds left. The Ice Dogs took a tripping penalty with only 9 seconds left in the period that carried over to the third.

The Wolves successfully converted the carried over power play into a goal to cut the Ice Dogs' lead to 3-2. A minute and half later the Wolves added another goal to knot the game at 3's. The next 7-8 minutes went back and forth with no goals or penalties but several excellent scoring chances to which the goalies were equal to the task. The Wolves took a tripping penalty with about five minutes left but no damage was done and the third period ended with a 3-3 tie.

On to overtime. The 4 on 4, 3 minute overtime opened with some tentative play but then the pace stepped up. Crucially, the Ice Dogs took a tripping penalty with 2:16 remaining which gave the Wolves a 5 on 4 advantage. The Wolves scored about a minute into the power play to secure the win (4-3) and become the "C" Champions.

Congratulations to both teams on a well-played game.
